Eric | Portraits

Back in March, my family and I traveled up North to visit a college in Canada. Our dear friends, the Schripsema’s, live in Lynden, WA, and took us in for the five days we were there. We had a wonderful time full of late night conversations, lots of laughs, and just a lovely time catching up. We’ve been blessed with so many close family friends who take us in for days at a time and with whom (yes, I just used whom) we can just pick right back up where we left off even if it’s been years. The Schripsema’s are most certainly some of those dear friends. Last summer we met up and camped together for one day, but before that the last time we had seen them was when I was nine, I think. So, it was wonderful to be able to spend more than a day together and catch up.

While we were visiting, Eric was kind enough to let me do a practice photo shoot of him because up ’til that point, all my clients had been girls and I had my first guy when we got back in town. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous. I thought it was rather funny though, because the only time we could do the shoot was the last night we were there and everyone was going out to the spit that night. Apparently Eric doesn’t like the water or boats and yet the one place we ended up was completely surrounded by water and boats. It made me laugh. Anyway, because it was the last night of a fun, but exhausting five days, my creativity was a bit frozen and took a while to thaw out, but thankfully, Eric helped me come up with some ideas for posing and such. It was fun for me to have a practice shoot where I could just experiment and not worry about turning out a certain number of photos, so thank you, Eric. I also experimented some with the editing so you’ll find a random assortment of looks.

So, here’s Eric. Sometime within the next few days I’ll be posting photos of all the Schripsema’s (minus their oldest son and his wife who live elsewhere) and us along with some little scenarious of various conversations and laughs. :) Enjoy!

Whenever I was editing this photo, “When Love Came Down at Christmas Time” by Point of Grace, which I haven’t heard in a very long time, always got stuck in my head. Every time. So I’d be sitting there editing away, humming that song and before long I had it stuck in my sister’s head too. I’m sure that wasn’t quite the effect you were going for with the shirt, Eric, but it did make me laugh every time I started singing Christmas music.  :)

(this was Eric’s idea…I’m not mean enough to ask someone who doesn’t like water to balance on a railing above a ton of water ;)

So we had finished the photo shoot and were back with the family at the fire, but suddenly my creativity finished thawing out and I just had to try something else. It was pretty dark by this time, but I wanted to try to some photos with a high ISO and just have them turn out nice and grainy. I rather like it.

Katelyn!!!! Seriously girl YOU have stepped into a new level! Its funny how you say that you felt like this was going to challenge your creativity (or somethin’ like that)… Because I think this is one of your most creative sessions yet! Love it. The guitar prop is great :))))

I have no idea who this person is,
    but these look great.
And I’m jealous of his ability to smile
    with his mouth closed.
    haha
